Barefoot Bowls – 5.30 to 7pm

When: Every Friday during daylight savings

Time: 5pm – 7.30pm

On Offer: Sausage sizzle

It’s good to see the young and the young at heart getting so much pleasure from their time on the green – topped off by the very popular sausage sizzle on the terrace. Barefoot Bowling is a great opportunity to connect with our neighbors and has resulted in a number of new bowlers joining our club! For more information contact Dennis Arnel 9898 5992 or Heather at e-mail dennis.heather@bigpond.com

Angling section

The Angling Section consists of Box Hill RSL members who are keen on fishing and enjoy the company of a diverse group with similar piscatorial interests.  Activities include one day trips, usually on a Sunday, and at least two weekends at convivial fishing locations, such as Barwon Heads or Inverloch.  The Angling Section meets at 8pm in the RSL library on the 4th Wednesday of the month.  Contact can be made with the president Trevor Moody (03) 9877 5786 or secretary/treasurer Gareth Davis (03) 9878 7940.

Snooker

Snooker and Billiards has been part of the fabric of Box Hill RSL since its inception – the popularity of this pastime can be traced back to the World and Australian Champion, Walter Lindrum and Walter’s support of the war effort (WW1) and is the only sport that has historically had mention in the Rules/By-laws of the League.

Box Hill RSL has two full size tables situated in the downstairs area of the Sub-Branch – these tables are available for use by those members who have paid the membership fee of $40. Visitors are welcome to play on the tables as long as they have a financial member accompanying  them.

Competition is played on Monday evening (A grade, with two teams), Tuesday mornings (over 55’s two teams) and B Grade (one team) in the evenings. Wednesday evening has been allocated for a higher grade of snooker which has depended on the quality of players available.

Both tables are available free of charge (no meters, no charge) for all forms of the sport, Snooker, Billiards and Pool. This sporting section is welcoming to all members of the Sub-Branch and if you need assistance in improving your game, there is always someone available to help.

Darts

Would you like to “have a go” at darts? or just observe? Come down to the Sports Lounge on a Monday Night

RSL members are encouraged to use the Darts Section equipment at any time. There are three dart boards permanently set up on the rear wall of the Sports lounge and a spare set of darts behind the bar.

The Box Hill Darts Section meets for social darts on Monday nights in the Sports Lounge.

Currently we field six teams in the winter competitions, one ladies team and five mixed gender teams.

Competitions are played on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Throughout the year the Darts Section conducts in-house competitions and all casual members and team members are welcome to participate. We also arrange a number of social outings during the year culminating in our Awards Night in December.

Anyone interested in trying their hand at darts will be most welcome, no experience necessary, just come down on Monday nights or contact the numbers listed below.
